2. Authorize the School Board Attorney to retain outside counsel to file a Petition for Writ of Mandamus and any other warranted lawsuit against the Clay County Board of County Commissioners

Following speaker comments, the Board discussed at length their individual views on this issue.  Mrs. Kerekes, Mrs. Bullock and Mrs. Studdard were in favor of moving forward to retain outside counsel to file the Writ of Mandamus petition and any warranted lawsuit against the County Commissioners, while Ms. Graham and Mrs. McKinnon were opposed to these actions.

3. Authorize the School Board Attorney to draft a letter to the Clay County Supervisor of Elections to place on the ballot for the November 4, 2014 general election a question regarding the appointment of the Clay County Superintendent of Schools

4. Comments

Minutes: Superintendent Van Zant reported on the successful opening of the new school year with no major issues.

5. Comments

Minutes: 

Board Members made comments about the smooth opening of school and also comments related to the recent emergency meeting and the ballot referendum issue. 

Consensus of the Board was to go ahead with the budget workshop on August 28, 2014, at 5:00 p.m.  Board members were asked to communicate with Dr. Copeland what they would like covered in the workshop.
